Today was a special day (out of a vacation full of special days!) as Jenny and I headed to the airport to pick up her sister, another of my daughters, Karen, who flew in from Virginia to help out with, among other things, pushing my wheelchair when necessary. (Now that I have the Prednisone prescription, I can walk more easily than without it; but I'm still very limited as far as walking distances is concerned.)

Celebrating my independence from having to do anything.

It was rainy this morning, so Jenny saw her clients at the condo while I moved out to the porch to enjoy the "liquid sunshine". There's something so relaxing about sitting in the warm, moist air while the rain softly falls a few feet away. And this condo has a long porch, across the whole face of the building, with comfortable seats and pleasant view.

10 days in paradise with 2 daughters.

As previously described, my daughter Jenny bought a rentable condo on Nassau, the most populated island in the Bahamas. That was last year; and the unit was recently completed. So Jenny invited myself and her siblings to stay with her there for a couple of weeks. She arrived first; I flew in today, and my daughter Karen will be joining us on Saturday.

74 years proving that wit doesn't come with an expiration date (and a half-wit, less so).

To be honest, last year at this time I wasn't at all convinced I would make it another year. (I thought the same, the year before.) I hadn't yet gotten my hip replacement scheduled, and every step I attempted was exhausting and painful. My blood pressure was very low (except when it was very high); my electrolytes were out of balance and my body had swollen with edema to the point of serious discomfort.

A camping trip with a hairy finish.

My co-op buddies and I made a number of hiking trips; we drove to the mountains almost every weekend. Mike knew how to look up hiking trails and would then recommend one. Dick knew how to make arbitrarily long tents out of sheets of plastic, clamps, and ties to nearby trees. But one of these trips stands out, because it was the occurrence of my first Bear Encounter.
